THE LIGHT IN A STABLE
John 12:46 “I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me
should not abide
For more than 400 years the heavens had been sealed. And no new revelation had come to brighten the landscape of man’s sinful night. Then, suddenly the silence was broken. The excellent glory was revealed and Jesus Christ stepped down from the Ivory Palaces of eternity into the evil smelling stable of the world. In self-sacrificing love He came to bring grace and forgiveness to sinful mankind. You would think that the world would have rejoiced and eagerly received the Savior. Instead, they clung to the darkness of their own depravity and with wicked hands soon proceeded to crucify the Prince of Life. No wonder we read, “This is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.” (John 3:19)
Although others such as John the Baptist were designated as luminaries or “lamps”, Christ was the only real radiance. Therefore, He alone is called “the light”! He embodied the essence of God’s glory, while the others were only “light bearers”. They had no innate illumination of their own. The birth of Christ brought illumination to this dark world. The light of Christ transforms the “stable” of man’s heart into a “temple” for the Holy Spirit, would that all men would come to this light.
